Event Overview

Step back into the golden age of Nevada County nights, when music drifted across the water, roller skates glided under glowing lights, and families gathered lakeside at Lake Olympia for an evening of pure joy.

On Wednesday, November 19, join us as Vince Seck takes the stage to share the remarkable story of his family’s concessions at Lake Olympia during the 1950s and ’60s — an era filled with live music, dancing, roller skating, and laughter echoing through the Glenbrook Basin.

Drawing from his book, “Lake Olympia and Glenbrook Park,” Vince will transport you through a century of recreation from 1851 to 1958 revealing how this beloved gathering place became a cornerstone of Nevada County’s social life.

Sip a cocktail, settle in, and relive the rhythm of an era that reminds us what it means to come together, dance, and celebrate community.

🎙 About the Speaker: Vince Seck

Joseph Vincent Seck — known to many as Vince, served Grass Valley as a police officer and later as its police chief before devoting over two decades as a docent at the Empire Mine and now at the Northstar Mining Museum. A lifelong historian and storyteller, he’s a member of the Nevada County Historical Society and a passionate voice for preserving our local past.

Vince’s family owned and operated Lake Olympia from 1950 to 1958, and through both his living history work and his new book, he keeps the memories of those lively lakeside summers alive — one story at a time.
